How it works
Where the rates come from
Rates come from ExchangeRate-API, which publishes mid-market reference rates for over 160 currencies. They are refreshed once a day and cached on our servers for an hour.
The mid-market rate is the midpoint between buying and selling prices on global markets. It's the fairest benchmark, but banks, bureaux de change and money transfer apps add a margin and fees, so the rate you're offered will be lower.
The CFA franc (XAF, used in Equatorial Guinea and Central Africa) is pegged to the euro at a fixed rate of 655.957 XAF per euro, so its rate against other currencies moves with the euro.

FAQ
Common questions
How often are rates updated?
Reference rates are updated once a day. The time of the latest update is shown under the converter.
Why is my bank's rate different?
Banks and transfer services usually add a margin to the mid-market rate and may charge fees. Compare the total amount the recipient gets, not just the advertised rate.
Is the CFA franc fixed to the euro?
Yes. The Central African CFA franc (XAF) is pegged at 655.957 XAF to 1 euro, and the West African CFA franc (XOF) uses the same rate.
Can I use these rates for accounting?
They're fine for estimates and planning. For accounts, invoices and tax returns, use the rates required by your accountant or tax authority.
