How it works

How to write a LinkedIn profile that gets found

Add your job title, top skills and, if you like, your company and specialism. These words feed LinkedIn search, so use the terms recruiters and clients actually type.

Describe who you help and what you help them do, plus a few achievements with numbers. Choose your goal (a new job, new clients or networking) so the closing line invites the right action.

Pick a headline (220 characters max) and copy your About section (up to 2,600 characters). Edit freely, try another version, and paste both into your profile.

FAQ

Common questions

How long can a LinkedIn headline be?

220 characters. Only the first 60 or so show next to your name in search results and comments, so put your role and key skill first.

How long should my About section be?

LinkedIn allows 2,600 characters, but 1,000 to 2,000 is usually plenty. The first three lines show before “see more”, so make them count.

Should I write in the first person?

Yes. “I help…” reads as warmer and more credible on LinkedIn than describing yourself in the third person.

Is anything I type stored?

No. Everything is generated in your browser, and your draft is saved only on your device.
